Case Study 1 〜Nature Dish App Design〜

Project duration: December 2021 to April 2022
The product :
Nature Dish a is an app-based food ordering and delivery platform located in a metropolitan area. Nature Dish strives to deliver healthy, specialty food and side dishes for those who are conscious about healthy food made by healthy ingredients. Nature Dish targets customers who are working at home and who have little  time or ability to prepare a nourishing lunch / dinner.
The problem :
Busy workers but conscious about healthy without enough time to prepare a meal.
The goal :
Design an app for Nature Dish that allows users to easily order and receive fresh and healthy dishes.
The role :
UX designer designing an app for Nature Dish from conception to delivery.
The responsibilities :
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wire-framing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.

User Research

Summary :
I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m
designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research
was working adults who are keen on healthy food. This user group confirmed initial assumptions about Nature Dish customers, but research
also revealed that users are anxious that their order is correctly processed without mistakes. One of the other findings was that users care not only the quantity of ingredient information but also the quality of the information, which is the user interface design.

Usability study findings :
I conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first study helpedguide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.
Round 1 findings
Users want detailed information abouteach menu to examine whether their choice meets their preference
Users prefer simpler and clearer page design
Actionable elements, such as CTA, should have enough size and be visible in case that a user has visual impairment
Round 2 findings
Only icons are sometimes insufficient
User sare always afraid of wrong order

Refining the design

Mockups :

Accessibility considerations :
Selected colors having accessible contrast to meet WCAG 2.0.
Used icons to help make navigation easier.
Used detailed imagery for ingredients and to help all users better understand the designs.

Takeaways

Impact :
The app may release from users’ pain, which many busy business people don’t have enough time to eat, but don’t want to give up their healthy life.
What I learned :
While designing the Nature Dish, I learned that user experience ends only on the app.It lasts after they received their order. In fact, we need to design the whole experience from the beginning to the end.

Next steps

Conduct another round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed.
